AM or PM | Acne Treatment Step
After cleansing and allowing the skin to dry, apply a thin layer to the entire acne-affected area rather than only individual pimples, avoiding the eyes, lips, and mucous membranes.
Follow with a compatible moisturizer as needed.
Recommended Introduction:
Initial Use: Begin every other day or according to your clinician's instructions.
For Delicate Skin: Your clinician may recommend short-contact application, initially leaving the product on for approximately 15 minutes before rinsing.
As Tolerance Develops: Gradually increase contact time or frequency when appropriate.
For Resilient Skin: Overnight application may be considered once the skin is fully acclimated.
If Dryness or Peeling Occurs: Reduce frequency. Discontinue use and seek clinical guidance if irritation persists or becomes significant.
The manufacturer's Drug Facts directions permit application one to three times daily, beginning once daily. More frequent application is not necessarily more effective and may increase irritation.
AM: Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher. Patients managing hyperpigmentation may benefit from tinted sunscreen containing iron oxides.
Amare Clinical Tip: A higher concentration of benzoyl peroxide is not automatically a better treatment.
For many patients with inflammatory acne, lower concentrations can provide effective treatment with improved tolerability. BP 10% should therefore be selected based on the patient's clinical presentation, prior response, and ability to tolerate treatment.
For skin of color, excessive irritation can contribute to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Patients experiencing acne alongside persistent dark marks may benefit from a more conservative treatment approach.
Avoid introducing BP 10% simultaneously with multiple exfoliating acids, retinoids, or other irritating treatments without clinical guidance.
Benzoyl Peroxide 10% — Active Acne Medication
Benzoyl peroxide is an established topical acne treatment with antibacterial and mild keratolytic properties.
It helps reduce Cutibacterium acnes through oxidative activity, addressing an important contributor to inflammatory acne. It also helps reduce follicular buildup associated with clogged pores.
Unlike topical antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide does not promote bacterial antibiotic resistance.
Glycerin
A humectant that helps attract and retain moisture. Included to support skin hydration within the treatment's lightweight gel base.
Propylene Glycol
A humectant and solvent that contributes to the formulation's texture and ingredient distribution.
Carbomer
A gel-forming ingredient that provides the product's lightweight consistency and supports even application.
Active: Benzoyl Peroxide 10%.
Inactive: Distilled Water, Glycerin, Sodium Hydroxide, Carbomer, Propylene Glycol, Fragrance, Yellow 5.
